fleur-de-lis ● french ● lily flower
The fleur-de-lis is the most instantly recognized symbol of New Orleans since its birth. Fleurs emblazoned French explorer’s flag when “Nouvelle Orleans” was founded in 1717. Yet it remains a mysterious emblem veiled by centuries of history. The fleur as we know today was born about 1062 A.D. as the nation of France emerged from the Dark Ages. It symbolizes the blood line of divine majesty and the trinity of royal brotherhood as well as perfection, light and life.
